Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Co-Occurring Disorders Virtual Training- Cohort #1


Cohort 1: Feb. 17–18, Mar. 9, April 13, 2026

*Must attend all dates of the training to receive Continuing Education credit.

9 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. (lunch daily from Noon – 1 p.m.)

This proposed course is designed for learners of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) who are primarily working in community mental health and substance-use treatment settings. This will be comprehensive CBT training with both didactic and experiential components to support foundation learning and provide the opportunity to apply the skills.

*NOTE: This training will be offered two more times this fiscal year. Dates and registration coming in late February.

Objectives

Objective 1 Define CBT.
Objective 2 Identify the theory and key principles of CBT.
Objective 3 Describe the historical development and theoretical underpinnings of CBT.
Objective 4 Identify how CBT can be integrated into other evidence-based approaches, e.g., motivational interviewing (MI).
Objective 5 Identify the role of automatic thoughts, cognitive distortions, and schemas in CBT.
Objective 6 Discuss the behavioral techniques used in CBT, such as exposure therapy and behavioral experiments.
Objective 7 Outline the process of case conceptualization in CBT.
Objective 8 Demonstrate basic CBT skills, including psychoeducation, goal setting, and self-monitoring.
Objective 9 Recognize common mental health disorders that can be treated with CBT.
Objective 10 Analyze the cultural considerations and ethical issues in applying CBT.
Objective 11 Apply basic CBT techniques in role-playing or simulated scenarios.
Objective 12 Develop a basic understanding of how to integrate CBT principles into other therapeutic approaches or settings.
Objective 13 Explain the collaborative nature of the therapeutic relationship in CBT and its role in treatment outcomes.
Objective 14 Identify methods for assessing progress and evaluating treatment outcomes in CBT.
Objective 15 Practice structuring a typical CBT session, including agenda-setting and homework review.
Objective 16 Identify common challenges and barriers in CBT and strategies for addressing them (e.g., client motivation and engagement).
