Description

Description: This advanced training supports supervisors who are already skilled in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and want to strengthen their leadership. Participants will practice applying MI strategies within individual and group supervision, team meetings, and documentation. The workshop also focuses on building staff MI competency through intentional coaching, structured exercises, and effective feedback. Participants should have the ability to demonstrate partnership, compassion, empowerment, and acceptance when communicating; recognize and respond to change talk; soften sustain talk; and guide conversations using the Four Tasks of MI.

Prerequisites: Those registering for the MI for Supervisors training must have completed a minimum of a two-day basic MI training, and preferably advanced also. If you have not completed basic MI training, check out the MI Foundational training cohorts on the CMHAM.org website.

Who Should Attend? This event is sponsored by the adult mental health block grant and is intended for persons who serve adults only through the public mental health provider network (CMHSPs and/or their contract agencies) in the state of Michigan. It contains content appropriate for CEOs, COOs, clinical directors, supervisors, team leads and any other practitioners at the advanced and supervisory levels of practice.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, through the Community Mental Health Association of Michigan, has provided funding for this initiative through the Federal Community Mental Health Block Grant.
