Participants in ACT 101 will be able to describe Michigan’s Assertive Community Treatment’s (ACT) history, development and dissemination, team structure, roles, and community deployment. Participants will review ACT Medicaid requirements and the Field Guide to ACT to enhance understanding of ACT practice and fidelity and will be able to describe ACT’s treatment focus on person-centered, recovery-based holistic treatment of people experiencing the most difficult and intractable symptoms of serious mental health illness. Using a therapeutic set of intensive clinical, medical, and psychosocial services provided by a mobile multidisciplinary treatment team, participants will learn about basic ACT supports and services to assist in community tenure. Participants can discuss, describe, and ask questions of presenters and MDHHS staff as they relate to providing services within the managed care Medicaid environment. Successful pre-attendance online work is required, as is the generated certificate of completion.
1. Describe the development and dissemination of ACT teams in Michigan.
2. Describe ACT implementation and fidelity to model including Medicaid, Michigan Field Guide to ACT, and Michigan Fidelity Assistance Support Team (MIFAST) process.
3. Summarize and explain the importance of treatment within a recovery-based system of care, and how team support and expectations within ACT positively impacts effects of serious mental illness (SMI).
4. Describe the four Recovery Dimensions: Health, Home, Purpose, and Community. Recount the ten Common Recovery Components pertinent to consumers served by ACT teams (Hope, Person-Driven, multiple Pathways, Holistic, Peer Supported, Relational, sensitive to Culture, Trauma informed, Strengths/Responsibilities required and Respect).
5. Describe and compare individuals in the movie ‘Inside-Outside-Building a Meaningful Life After the Hospital,’ featuring eight individuals once considered to have the most chronic SMI and related impairments to those receiving treatment through ACT in Michigan’s current community based public behavioral health system.
6. Identify the Ten Principles of ACT.
7. Define and describe the activities and expectations of services provided through ACT.
8. In the Michigan Medicaid Provider Manual, review specifics to ACT, discuss and summarize ACT.
9. Articulate ACT Team Composition, roles, and expectations.
10. Describe the Characteristics of ACT Teams.
11. Validate ACT effectiveness after watching John Oliver YouTube clip.
12. Identify and explain outcomes expected through ACT.

13. Explain how the Field Guide to ACT supports practice
Social Workers: This course qualifies for a maximum of 12 Continuing Education hours. The Community Mental Health Association is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. Approved Provider Number: MICEC 060818. Qualifies as “face-to-face" (in-person) education.
Substance Use Disorder Professionals: CMHA is approved by Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP). CMHA maintains the responsibility for the program and content. Substance Use Disorder professionals participating in this training may receive a maximum of 12 related contact hours. It is important that attendees keep a copy of the training program brochure containing the workshop description.
Michigan Public Health Institute—Continuing Education Solutions (MPHI-CES) is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Louisiana State Nurses Association - Approver, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Cornelis “Kees” Frankfort, MA, LLP - Kees Frankfort has a long and rich history with Michigan Community Mental Health and especially with the ACT program. Kees was an original member of the ACT program and has been active in the development of the ACT model. He is a lifelong advocate for adults, who live with a mental illness.
Anne Agar-Krill, RN, MSN - Working with the seriously mentally ill population for over thirty-five years has provided me with the opportunity to acquire varied insights and skills. Many of these skills were developed during my work on an ACT team functioning as a nurse and an educator as part of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. Experiences have provided me with numerous authentic examples to use in my teaching. I have been providing ACT trainings in the state of Michigan and numerous other states for the past twelve years.

No shows will not receive a refund.
Cancellation Policy: If you do not cancel and do not attend, you will not receive a refund. Substitutions are permitted based on availability. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 14 days prior to the training for a full refund of less administrative fee based on the registration price below.

If cancellation is received less than 14 days prior to the training, no refund will be given.
Special Accommodations: This information is requested when you register, however arrangements for special accommodations will be honored for those who submit via email 14 days prior to the training. Clearly state your specific needs for mobility assistance, interpreters, etc. Attempts for on-site requests will be made.
National Accreditation Rules: National Accreditation rules indicate that if you are over five (5) minutes late or depart early, you forfeit your continuing education hours for the entire training. Please note that this is a National rule that CMHA must enforce or we could lose our provider status to provide continuing education hours in the future. This rule will be strictly followed.
Evaluation: Each participant is required to complete an evaluation of the course and the instructor. If you have any issues with the way in which this conference was conducted or other problems, you may note that in your evaluation of the conference, or you may contact CMHA at 517-374-6848 or through our website for resolution.
Severe Weather Policy: Events will take place as scheduled, and we will not be able to refund registration fees. In the event of severe weather, please check the CMHA website at www.CMHAM.org for scheduling delays and event updates.
