Description

Training Description: This four-hour workshop focuses on conceptualizing DBT treatment through the lens of trauma. Topics will include assessing for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), building motivation to treat PTSD during DBT, using DBT strategies to prepare clients for DBT Prolonged Exposure (PE) treatment for PTSD, and using DBT skills to manage PTSD symptoms before DBT PE treatment begins. 

Who Should Attend: This event is sponsored by the adult mental health block grant and is intended for persons who are providing comprehensive DBT services to adults only through the mental health provider networks (CMHSPs and/or their contract agencies) in the state of Michigan. It contains content appropriate for CEOs, COOs, clinical directors, supervisors, case managers, support coordinators, therapists, crisis workers, peer support specialists, nurses, advocates, and recovery coaches. This training is specifically geared for individuals who are currently on a comprehensive DBT team. The DBT team must provide services to adults with a serious mental illness (SMI) and work under a CMHSP, PIHP, or contractor. Prerequisite is that the participant is registered and/or has already completed the DBT Intensive or DBT Foundational Training and is on a comprehensive DBT team.

Annie began training in DBT as a graduate student at New York University in 1999. Since receiving her master’s degree in 2000, she has continued to develop her skills as a DBT practitioner, including acting as a skills trainer and individual therapist on two research studies led by treatment developer Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. at the University of Washington. Annie has worked closely with Melanie Harned, Ph.D. in the development and training of the DBT PE protocol, including providing individual therapy in the original treatment development study. She co-founded Youth and Family DBT of Seattle, which offered multi-family DBT skills groups and parent coaching workshops from 2007-2016. She currently works as a DBT PE therapist, trainer, and consultant. She is a certified DBT therapist, and a certified PE therapist and supervisor.

Payment MUST be received at the time of registration. No checks or ACH will be accepted. No exceptions to this rule.

No shows will not receive a refund.

Cancellation Policy: If you do not cancel and do not attend, you will not receive a refund.  Substitutions are permitted based on availability. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 14 days prior to the training for a full refund of less administrative fee based on the registration price below.

If cancellation is received less than 14 days prior to the training, no refund will be given. A full refund will be given to those who register for a training but are not approved by MDHHS.

Special Accommodations: This information is requested when you register, however arrangements for special accommodations will be honored for those who submit via email 14 days prior to the training. Clearly state your specific needs for mobility assistance, interpreters, etc. Attempts for on-site requests will be made.

National Accreditation Rules: National Accreditation rules indicate that if you are over five (5) minutes late or depart early, you forfeit your continuing education hours for the entire training. Please note that this is a National rule that CMHA must enforce or we could lose our provider status to provide continuing education hours in the future. This rule will be strictly followed.

Evaluation: Each participant is required to complete an evaluation of the course and the instructor. If you have any issues with the way in which this conference was conducted or other problems, you may note that on your evaluation of the conference or you may contact CMHA at 517-374-6848 or through our website at for resolution.

Severe Weather Policy: Events will take place as scheduled and we will not be able to refund registration fees. In the event of severe weather, please check the CMHA website at  www.CMHAM.org for scheduling delays and event updates.

Virtual Participation Guidelines

You are expected to actively participate in this virtual training. See below for additional information about virtual training requirements and recommendations:

  • After registering with CMHA, you will receive a confirmation email. You will be automatically registered in Zoom and will access the training through your account on CMHA’s registration site.
  • It is recommended that you log into the Zoom meeting through your account on CMHA’s registration site five to ten minutes before the training to test your equipment.
  • If you are experiencing technical issues prior to or during the training, please contact CE21 tech support to assist, but there is no guarantee that they can solve the issue. You are responsible for the functionality of your own equipment and being able to fully participate in the virtual training.
  • You must watch the virtual training LIVE to receive credit for the training.
  • Being on camera is strongly encouraged to ensure active participation.
  • To verify attendance, unique codes will be provided once at the beginning and at the end of each training day. You will be required to input the codes through your account on CMHA’s registration site at the end of the training. It is your responsibility to write down the code each day of the training. Do not share codes with other attendees.
  • Zoom reports will indicate arrival and departure times (for continuing education you must be logged into the virtual training within five minutes of the start of the training).
  • We do not allow participants to be driving during the training due to Michigan Distracted Driving Laws.
  • If you choose to call in only, you will not qualify for continuing education credits or attendance certificates.
  • Each person must have their own device – you cannot share a device or a Zoom link or allow others to log into your account on CMHA’s registration site.
  • Each training takes place in Eastern Standard Time.
